We had less than 20% of the money we estimated we needed when we packed up our things and stepped on that plane a few months ago.
Some were proud of us.
Some were inspired to take their own steps of faith.
Others thought it was reckless.
We didn’t know how it was going to work out.
All we knew was that we felt like God was telling us to GO.
…so, by God’s grace, we went.
And Here’s What Happened
God met us in ways we never could have planned:
✅ Our son, nervous about the move, walked into a warm and inviting playroom in our new home—and settled right in, his signature smile lighting up his face.
✅ We walked into a stocked fridge, a pantry full of food, a grocery gift card, and a loaner car—gifts from the missionaries and candidates at Compass Aviation.
✅ The missionary family who usually rents this house left for a year in the Congo and is covering the utilities while they’re gone (cheaper than storage for them!).
✅ The homeowner is letting us trade caretaking and maintenance projects for rent for the time being.
✅ Compass Aviation is compensating Adam for maintenance work for the time being while he trains.
We still don’t have “enough” funding.
But we have seen without a doubt God’s provision.
We have walked in faith, not sight, and watched His hand in every tiny detail.
If We Had Waited… We Would Have Missed It
It’s easy to wait until we feel “ready” before stepping out in faith. But:
❌ If we had waited until we had “enough” money… we would have missed it.
❌ If we had waited until we felt “equipped” and “ready”… we would have missed it.
❌ If we had waited until it made sense to the world (or to us)… we would have missed it.
And we’re so glad we didn’t.
God’s Faithfulness Is Not Reckless
I (Brenna) once read Reckless Faith by Beth Guckenberger, a missionary in Mexico. Her faith seemed reckless to the outside world, but her stories showed that trusting God is never reckless.
… Even when we feel unqualified.
… Even when we’re not sure how it will work out.
… Even when it doesn’t make sense.
God’s Faithfulness Is Who He Is
All throughout Scripture, God’s faithfulness isn’t just something He shows—it’s who He is.
It’s easy to trust God when everything makes sense—when the numbers add up, when the doors open easily, when we can see the plan unfolding. But what about when it doesn’t?
What about when we don’t feel “ready”?
What about when the provision isn’t there—yet?
What about when obedience looks reckless to the world?
The truth is, God’s faithfulness isn’t dependent on our circumstances or our ability to understand His plan.
Even when the diagnosis comes...
The phone call...
The funeral...
God is faithful.
God's faithfulness isn't just shown in moments of provision, like those that we've experienced, but also in moments of deep pain and loss.
In Exodus 34:6, God describes Himself as:
“The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness (emet).”
This is one of the most repeated descriptions of God in the entire Bible.
His emet—His steadfast, unwavering faithfulness—is woven into His very character.
That means we can trust Him completely, even when the path ahead seems uncertain.
Even when we can’t see the outcome, He has already completed it.
If we had waited until everything made sense before stepping out in faith, we would have missed the incredible ways God has provided.
God’s faithfulness doesn’t change with our bank account.
It doesn’t waver when we feel unqualified.
It doesn’t disappear when the future is uncertain.
He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). And that means we can trust Him—even when we don’t understand.
We serve an amazing God, and we’re seeing His faithfulness in ways we never expected.
… but probably should have.
Stepping Into Faith—Will You?
We don’t share this because we have extraordinary faith. We share it because we serve an extraordinary God.
A God who goes before us (Deuteronomy 31:8).
A God who provides in ways we never could have planned (Philippians 4:19).
A God who remains faithful, even when we can’t see the next step (2 Timothy 2:13).
We’re still walking this journey. We still don’t have “enough.” But we have Him—and He has never failed us.
So here’s our encouragement to you: What step of faith is God calling you to take?
Maybe it’s something big, or maybe it’s a small act of obedience.
Maybe it doesn’t make sense yet.
Maybe it feels reckless.
But trusting God is never reckless.
We’re praying for you to take that next step—even if it feels scary. Because on the other side, you’ll find what we have: a faithful God who is already there.
With joy,
The McCormicks
